Hello! My name
is Emily and I’m a hair stylist trying to earn an AA in English. For as long as
I can remember, I’ve always loved to write; I remember always having a pen and
notebook, taking notes and jotting things down. For the last few years, I’ve
been taking online English classes through DVC and LMC. (I’m almost done – YAY!)
I’m also a hair stylist at a salon in Brentwood, and have been doing hair for
over 9 years! I’m currently in the process of transitioning from one salon to
the other; I’m excited to start a new chapter in my career, but also very
nervous that I won’t be busy! One of my long-term career goals is to continue
combine my love for hair and my love for writing by writing a book and getting
it published. That would be one of my dreams come true! For the last four years
or so, I’ve started my “writing journey” by being a contributing writer for a
local magazine called Delta Living Magazine, where I write about all things
related to beauty. I think I’ve had about 9 articles published now, which is
something I never thought possible. I don’t get paid to write for the magazine,
but it’s totally worth it for the experience and exposure. One of my favorite writing
classes I’ve taken was creative writing. I liked the class because the
different writing prompts got me out of my comfort zone and really got me
thinking. I’ve recently gotten into the show on tv called “The Good Doctor,”
about an autistic surgeon – I find it interesting! My boyfriend and I also have
3 dogs – a Black Lab/Great Dane mix, female, named LuLu; a Saint Bernard,
female, named Sachi; and a Beagle/Dachshund/Terrier mix, male, named Gunter. My
boyfriend surprised me with Gunter and adopted him for me. He follows me
everywhere! And he loves walks, bones, squeaky toys (which totally annoy my
boyfriend, it’s hilarious!), cuddling and lots and lots of kisses!
